What is a logo?
A logo is a picture, frequently compiled of an image and letters or words that represents a company, organization, or individual. For example, the golden arches is the official logo for McDonald’s, while the “swoosh” symbol is attached to Nike. Having a logo is a form of branding, a marketing tool that is commonly used to help others become aware and familiar with your product, service, or organization. When people see your logo, it automatically lets them know that you are present in proximity or involved in an activity/event.
Although a logo is not required for book clubs, having one increases your club’s professional appearance, can give the club more visibility, and can be used to create customized products like T-shirts for group outings. A logo, especially one that is frequently used, can serve as a constant advertisement for your club, enticing new members and demonstrating your presence in your community. You can hire a graphic designer to make a logo or you can create one yourself. There are many websites online that offer free or low-priced methods to create and download a logo. Most sites require you to create a user account, then walk you through the process, step-by-step, allowing you to select images, enter text, and arrange your personalized logo. If you decide to hire a graphic designer instead of doing it yourself, realize that fees for creating the design will vary by the designer. Establish a budget for creating the logo with your book club before contacting a designer, as well as ideas for your logo.
