Fatima Williams is the owner of All Natural Hair Salon in Washington, D.C. Her best friend Lauryn and her cousin Sheba are her business partners. Fatima had an epiphany. Her desire is to empower black women by motivational speaking and traveling across the country.
As Fatima moves further into her destiny, her inner circle has dwindled. Frustrated that she is an eternal girlfriend, her boyfriend Ephraim of five years is too busy climbing the corporate ladder. To make matters worse, Lauryn and Sheba will not commit to the cause. The best season of her life is turning into a lonely one.
Marvelous Are Thy Works is an inspirational story about natural hair empowerment, self love and relationships.
I love encouraging African American women to embrace and wear their natural hair. I am passionate about the natural hair movement. I have worn my natural hair since 2007 year. My natural hair journey is the inspiration behind my book Marvelous Are Thy Works.
If you were to create a spin off of Marvelous Are They Works with one of your supporting characters, which one would it be and why?
I would create a spin off of my newest book with protagonist, Fatima because she's a visionary and pursues her passion. I believe that Fatima is relatable to most women who want a prosperous life filled with success, love and happiness. There's much more for her to explore and she will continue to grow.
Who are some of the authors that you enjoy reading?
One of my favorite books is called Kinky Gazpacho: Life, Love & Spain by Lori Tharps. I read it while I was transitioning into wearing my natural hair. The story is about how Lori was perceived by her brown skin and her kinky hair texture when she went to Spain.
What is a hidden talent or pastime that you enjoy doing that would surprise others?
I love to make scrapbooks. We have social media such as Instagram and Facebook but I love to collect things for memories. I save printed articles, pictures, receipts and magazines as souvenirs. I think it's important to retain historical items to pass down to the next generation.
